Beer Hunter: The Movie, a documentary about the great beer critic Michael Jackson, premieres in  New York City tonight. I’m on a panel afterward on the Bard of Beer’s lasting influence (Jackson died in 2007). Jackson started his beer-writing career focusing, understandably, on Europe; his original World Guide to Beer in 1977, for instance, trained 14 pages on the United States, while Maryland-sized Denmark got 10. Fast forward 30 years, and Jackson was routinely singling out American beers for high praise—this “world classic” in particular.
